Ageing infrastructure meant growing risk
Centum Books had relied on traditional on-premise servers for years. The setup was serviceable, but it was becoming harder to maintain, offered little flexibility for remote working, and represented an increasing security and resilience risk.
The business also ran a bespoke line-of-business (LOB) application central to its publishing operations. Any migration had to keep that application running throughout — replacing it wasn’t an option.
What Did We Do?
A phased migration to Microsoft cloud
1-Zero-1 designed and delivered a phased migration, modernising each part of the environment in turn so the business could keep trading throughout the project.
Device Management
All devices migrated from traditional Active Directory to Microsoft Entra ID – cloud identity, modern security policies, flexible access for office and remote users.
File & Collaboration
hared company data moved from the on-premise file server to SharePoint Online, with version control, anywhere access, and built-in Microsoft 365 integration.
User Storage
Individual documents migrated to OneDrive for Business – automatic sync across devices, secure remote access, and built-in recovery if a device fails.
Azure Application Hosting
The bespoke LOB application was moved into a secure Azure environment, preserving existing workflows while gaining cloud resilience and simplified maintenance.
What Was the Result?
A modern IT platform, minimal disruption
Centum Books is now running entirely on Microsoft cloud infrastructure. The legacy server environment has been retired, and the team can work securely from anywhere, without losing access to the specialist application the business depends on.
